Subject: C B DeMille & Charles Kenyon

While researching my uncle's credits, I was interested to learn that he co wrote a famous Broadway play with DeMille , "Kindling". I wish I could have been a fly on the wall then ?

A Note to those remembering Mr. DeMille: One of this creative man's friends, and neighbours, was Francis Hopkins (a still photographer, rancher, and mine owner in California), father of a first-born son, Clayton Norwood H., and a second-born son, Francis Edgington H. When a third child was expected, and both paternal and maternal grandparents had already 'stood godparent' to their next generation, Mr. de Mille claimed the honour of becoming Godfather to the child, Cecil de Mille Hopkins (1915-1992), a boy stunt rider in several of his and his colleagues' movies, professional cowboy, mechanic, and engineer - also my husband (1966 - 1992). To my regret, their father wanted none of our sons to be named after him: in the East, where they were born and we live, the nice name Cecil is alas pronounced "ceesl" - and, no, that won't do. It didn't for Mr. DeMille, it also won't for Mrs. Cecil de Mille Hopkins (ET Cecile Hopkins).
