Artin Artinian

Artin Artinian, born on March 4, 1921 in Odessa, Russia, passed away on May 22, 2000 in Los Angeles, California.

Artin was born to Garabad and Siranoush. Within a few months, the family escaped to Bucharest, Romania. When Artin was six years old, he lost his father. He received his elementary education in Bucharest's Misakian-Pesirian School. Later he attended Kantemir, a Romanian secondary school. At age fourteen, strictly on his own, he started a business that he successfully ran until he left Romania. In 1955 he marries Meguerditchian. In 1957 his daughter Elizabeth is born. In 1960 the family, in search of a better life, left Romania and immigrated to the United States of America. He settled with his family in Los Angeles where he was able to start another business, which he ran successfully until his last days. In 1966 his son Gary was born. Artin was a dedicated father and member of the Armenian community. He became one of the founding fathers of Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School and church. He served on the board of trustees for over ten years. He tirelessly served the Armenian community and his dedication was appreciated by all who knew him. After a short illness, he died on May 22, 2000 at the age of 79.

Artin is survived by his wife, Anahid Artinian; his daughter, Elizabeth Khachatrian; his son, Gart Artinian; his son-in-law, Hagop Khachatrian; his grandchildren, Jacqueline Khachatrian, Christopher Khachatrian and Gina Khachatrian; and his sister, Kohar Narghizian.

Some of Artin's favorite charities include St. Garabed Armenian Apostolic Church of Hollywood, the Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School and the Armenian Romanian Raffi Cultural Association.
